The fight between Mike Alvarado and Brandon Rios look to break their tie as they meet for the third time. The friendly rivals collide at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, just outside of Alvarado's hometown of Thornton, Colorado. Their bout headlines a televised doubleheader later this evening on the 2015 season premiere of HBO's Boxing After Dark (Saturday, HBO 9:45 p.m. ET). Also on the telecast, unbeaten super middleweight Gilberto Ramirez takes on Maxim Vlasov. What do you think?
Rios probably had to lose at least 20 pounds to dehydrate to make the 147 pound limit for the fight. It’s hard to believe that at one time Rios used to be able to make 135. He’s really eaten his way out of that division, and he could soon eat his way out of the 147 pound division as well.
Alvarado looks a lot more healthy and reach to fight at 146.5 lbs than Rios. I don’t expect Alvarado to bulk up nearly as much as Rios after he rehydrates overnight. Alvarado is going to need to be able to stay light on his feet because he’ll need to do a lot of moving in order to avoid the heavier Rios. Alvarado doesn’t have a great chin, so he can’t stand in the pocket and trade with Rios all night long. Rios is a punch magnet, and he’ll gladly eat punches for 12 rounds in order to get the better of Alvarado in each round.
This is a really good action fight because of there styles, the problem is they both take to many punches witch is not good 4 a long career these guys will go to war with the loser being damaged goods after the fight if not both of them!!!! This is a very fan friendly fight!
They fought once and slugged it out, Rios won. The second time Alvarado figured out mid way that he should just box instead of slugging and he won. This third time, Alvarado will box from the beginning to end and win unanimous.
Rios didn't even looked ripped at 135 either and there are pep plenty of guys who are like that. As a general rule this site is all about Junior and is against anything associated with Top Rank and Rios is a popular fighter who at the moment is promoted by Top Rank.
Mike has been a string of tough fights and been stopped in two of his last four and took some hard shots against Marguez AND he has been distracted and distressed with his recent legal troubles. If Rios fights with the same passion and tenacity as he did in the first two fights I got Rios but should be an entertaining fight.
This is a good match up fight for the third time.
