One of the biggest fights of this year as Khan steps up two weight divisions to challenge the Mexican monster Alvarez for his WBC middleweight title.
Amir Khan faces the sternest test of his career against Saul Canelo Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The 29-year-old is stepping up two weight divisions to take on the WBC middleweight champion, whose only defeat came against Floyd Mayweather in 2013.
Khan has already described it as biggest test of his career and one that will define his legacy. He goes into the bout with odds as long as 4-1 to win, but with the explosive power he possesses it would certainly be wrong to dismiss his chances.
Amir Khan faces the toughest fight of his career at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night when he challenges Mexico's WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas at a catchweight of 155lbs - and you can follow the build-up at sportinglife.com.
The 29-year-old from Bolton (31-3, 19 KOs) is the underdog having stepped up two weight divisions to challenge one of the world's leading fighters (46-1-1, 32 KOs), who is nicknamed 'Canelo' (which means cinnamon) due to his red hair, and is widely expected to get stopped inside the distance.
But should Khan win - and take the WBC middleweight title in the process - it would go down as one of the finest victories in British boxing history. The winner will also be in line to fight IBF and WBA champion Gennady Golovkin in their first defence.
Alvarez, affectionately known as ‘Canelo’, owing to his red hair, has lost just once in his career, to the unbeatable speed merchant Floyd Mayweather.
Although the match was made at five pounds under the 160lb middleweight limit, the 25-year-old Alvarez, a natural light-middlweight, is expected to weigh as much as 175lb on fight night, almost a stone more than Khan.
Khan has been knocked out twice in 34 professional fights, leading some experts to believe the fight will be over the first time Alvarez lands clean.
Alvarez has lost once in 48 pro fights, against Floyd Mayweather in 2013, and 32 of his 46 victories have come by way of knockout.
Alvarez's trainer, Eddy Reynoso, has warned that the Mexican people want revenge for Khan's victory over the great Marco Antonio Barrera in 2009.
On that occasion, a clash of heads in the first round opened a cut on Barrera's forehead and caused the fight to be waved off in the fifth.
The result effectively ended the career of the former three-weight world champion, who beat British great Naseem Hamed in 2001 and is perhaps most famous for his trio of fights against fellow Mexican Erik Morales.
It will be a great fight for both boxers who stay alive this summer nights of May 7, 2016.
What is your fight prediction for this fight? Will it be one of the most fearsome or exciting fight for this right?
Let's find out!
Can Khan follow the blueprint set by Mayweather to beat Alvarez? All eyes will be fixed on the brand new T-Mobile Arena in the early hours of Sunday morning.
