Creativity commented by Brian Alger

"Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert is a unique artistic achievement. I have listened to this recording many times since it was released in the mid-70s. When I think about artistry, creativity, and improvisation this performance always comes to mind.

As Mr. Harford discusses, we do not need ideal circumstances to be at our most creative. Sometimes the unexpected and the unforeseen can inspire a more robust form of creative improvisation. In an important sense, the difficulties and challenges that arise in the midst of our creative expression can become a source of inspiration... if we are oriented to working them in that way.

A person skilled in the art of improvisation has a natural kinship with messy problems. At the same time, a person who is less oriented to creative interaction may struggle. In the end, improvisation is what happens when the unexpected collides with our own individual creativity."
